Nothing can ever just work can it? Xbuntu doesn't seem to have any modelines for 1280x1024@72Khz, which is what the projector was calibrated to. It took some fiddling around with the nvidia driver and x config to get to 1280x1024@75KHz. Then I gave up and calibrated the projector to that resolution/frequency range.
